Petitions are available for directors in districts 3, 7 and 8 on the Board of Directors of Menard Electric Cooperative. See district areas here. Petitions must be signed by no less than 10 members and must be submitted to the co-op’s office by 4:30 p.m. on April 23.

Unusually Cold Temperatures Affect Your Bill

Wow-we just keep seeing those bitterly cold temperatures and windchill values this winter. It has certainly been an unusually cold season for us.

It was the 4th coldest December on record in the last 30 years and was colder than the previous year by about 30-40 percent. January didn't fair any better and February isn't starting off well either.

Winter Storms Could Bring Outages

We escaped major outages from the ice predicted to hit last Friday night/Saturday morning Jan. 31-Feb. 1

But now we face significant snow falls predicted for Tuesday afternoon/Wednesday morning Feb. 4-5 as well as later in the week.

Beware of Scams

   A nationwide email scam is targeting utility customers by sending bogus invoices directing them to a virus-infected site.

   Ameren has reported its customers being targeted, and an electric cooperative in Macomb, McDonough Power Cooperative, has received a report from one of its members as well.

            Electric cooperatives are disappointed—but not surprised—that in September the Administration officially abandoned an all-of-the-above energy strategy for a new, all-but-one approach that effectively removes coal from the nation’s fuel mix in the future.

Trip of a lifetime opportunity for High School Juniors

High School Juniors could be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C.

To be eligible, high school juniors must live in a home with a parent/guardian who is a member of Menard Electric Cooperative. They must also attend Youth Day in Springfield on April 2, 2014.
