Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may be able to help you pay your electric bill. The program has changed slightly this year and we encourage you to contact your local office as soon as possible to see if you qualify to receive benefits. If you do, a one-time lump sum payment is paid directly to us on your behalf. Payment is based upon the number of people in your household and their combined 30-day gross monthly income. Below is the county office information we have available.

The 7 Cooperative Principles That Guide Us

Every October since 1930, not-for-profit cooperatives of all kinds have recognized National Cooperative Month in October as a way to educate the public about how co-ops work and to appreciate their many members. We want to take this opportunity to highlight the seven cooperative principles that lead electric cooperatives like us to do business in a better way every single day.

No. 1: Voluntary and Open Membership/ No. 2: Democratic Member Control

Safety Accreditation Earned

Menard Electric Cooperatives sets a high standard of safety for our employees and our members. We strive to provide our employees with the tools they need to work as safely as possible. We also seek to educate members in ways to stay safe around electricity as well as performing work such as tree trimming that helps protect all of our members and the general public.

Capital Credits - help us find these inactive members

In May 2015 our Board of Directors authorized a general retirement of capital credits earned in 1991 and a portion of 1992. Members currently receiving service who also had service during that time received a bill credit or check. (Remember, capital credits are the margins we earn that are allocated back to you each year because we are non-profit and member-owned.)

Harvest Safety Tips

  • Use a spotter when operating large machinery near power lines.
  • Use care when raising augers or the bed of grain trucks around power lines.
  • Keep equipment at least 10 feet from power lines — at all times, in all directions.
  • Inspect the height of farm equipment to determine clearance.
  • Always remember to lower extensions when moving loads.
