Eric Hobbie accepts position as President & CEO of Prairie Power, Inc.

The Board of Directors of Menard Electric Cooperative (MEC) announces that Eric Hobbie, General Manager of MEC, has accepted the position of President & CEO of Prairie Power, Inc. (PPI).  PPI, which provides wholesale electricity to 10 electric distribution cooperatives, including MEC, is headquartered in Springfield, Ill.   Hobbie will replace retiring Interim President & CEO Dan Breden on January 1, 2017.

Hobbie has served as MEC’s General Manager since May of 2015 when he replaced retiring General Manager Lynn Frasco.  Prior to becoming General Manager at Menard Electric Cooperative in 2015, he served as Chief Utility Engineer at City Water Light & Power (CWLP) in Springfield, Ill.  He earned an MBA degree from the University of Illinois in 2004 and a BS in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University in 1992. Eric and his wife, Molly, along with their children, Brian and Megan, reside in Springfield.

Board President Jay Frye said, “We are very disappointed to lose Eric, but at the same time we are very excited for him personally and professionally.  Eric will still continue to serve our members through our G&T, Prairie Power, Inc.  It will be exciting to have a G&T manager that truly understands the needs of a distribution cooperative and its members.

“Menard has a very strong and talented group of employees who will continue to serve our members very well during this transition as the board begins the process to find the next General Manager of Menard."
